Sishupunarjanmam refers to giving a fresh lease of life to differently abled exceptionally talented children in the fields of music and arts. Launched in 2003, the project has turned out to be extremely successful and satisfying. Over the years, five scholars have bagged the most creative individual award in the field of arts from the President of India given on the 3rd of Dec which is World Disability Day.
As far as music is concerned, one of the scholars Manoj is doing his Ph.D in music; Akshaya will be enrolling herself for Ph.D very soon and is currently training under Dr. Sunder through a National scholarship. Fresh batch of four new scholars are being trained in vocal music, two in instruments (Tabla & Drums) and one in drawing. They are progressing well and are sure to shape up well like our other scholars. Indrakumar continues his tutelage under Sri. Ramasuresh and will be applying for the President’s Award during the forthcoming year.
This project is funded through a grant from Mr. and Mrs. Jawahar and Mrs. Anuradha Sriram.
As an extension to the Sishupunarjanmam project DARSHAN Art Gallery & DARSHAN Orchestra have been formed and opportunities are being given for the visually impaired to perform and the hearing & speech impaired children to permanently display their paintings. The Orchestra teams are getting regular offers to perform at marriage functions, temple festivals, birthday parties & house warming ceremonies. Several individual and group shows are being regularly organized for promotion of paintings and the permanent art gallery.
